Is Y2K Officecore the next trending aesthetic?
We’ve covered all the trending aesthetics over the years Old Money, Coastal Cowgirl, and Blokette – and now there’s a new one that’s started making its rounds on TikTok and Pinterest. Is this the next big fashion aestethic to take over 2023? Y2K Officecore is here and she means business.
Y2K Officecore is the latest fashion aesthetic to emerge this Fall/Winter season – and it’s all business. Office-wear inspired outfits that look like they came straight out of the 2000s are back, with some key pieces taking the spotlight. We analyzed the behavior of our 120 million users as well as tracked Google searches to discover just how much this trend is impacting online shopping.
The trend is letting us have our “Gisele Bundchen in The Devil Wears Prada” moment. Still not convinced? Here are some of the key pieces you need to style the Y2K Officecore trend.
Neckties are back! We all remember the Y2K days of ironically wearing neckties – thanks to pop punk bands and stars like Avril Lavigne. But in 2023, we’re seeing them being worn in a more serious and elevated way. Don’t be afraid to raid your boyfriend’s closet or the men’s section to find the perfect one. Demand for neckties has been picking up in the past few months and now that we are moving into the Fall/Winter season this cool accessory is exhibiting viral potential. Office attire was spotted all over Fashion Week in Milan, Paris, and London, and one of the hottest items was the necktie. On Stylight we’ve also seen an 86% increase in demand for wide neckties.

While sunglasses have always been an easy choice for a cool accessory, this fall we’re seeing regular frames more and more – especially the skinny, rectangular glasses that were so popular in the mid 2000s. Google searches for “rectangular frame glasses” have increased by 24% in the past year and they’ve been spotted on cool girls like Amelia Gray Hamlin, Bella Hadid, and Gabriette Bechtel.

3. Cropped trench coats
The trench coat is always a popular piece for fall. Smart, chic, and practical – it’s one of the wardrobe staples of the working woman. But in 2023, we’re seeing a new version – the cropped trench coat. It’s being styled almost as a mini-dress – closed and belted with bare legs and we’ve it on celebs like Kendall Jenner, Chiara Ferragni, and Valentina Ferragni. Google searches for “cropped trench coat” have exploded over the past year, with an increase of 339%.
And don’t worry, if the cropped version isn’t for you the classic long trench is still a fashionable option. We’ve seen a 52% increase in demand for trench coats on Stylight compared to last year.
