Wall decorations in check: Paint, wall paper or wall tattoo?
The desired atmosphere will determine whether your home will get a new coat of paint or a new wallpaper. A decorative wall tattoo is highly recommended, if you just want to give your walls a modern look on a whim.
Color as a wall decoration
Advantage:
- wide range of colors
- wide range of colors for different purposes (washable, environmentally friendly, against mold etc.)
- easy application (anyone can paint!)
- Price: ten liters of wall paint cost between USD 10 and 80
- easy to paint over
Disadvantage:
- Wall paints can contain biocides which could trigger allergies
- Color can rub off
- Opened paint can keep for a maximum of two years
Good to know: Colours in light neutral shades, create the perfect stage for your furniture and dark tones make a big impression. Shades of white or pastel colors make a room appear bigger.
Wallpaper as wall decorations
Advantage:
- wide range of patterns and colors
- You can change the surface of walls with textured wallpaper
- Fabric wallpaper create a special coziness
- Irregularities on the wall are concealed
Disadvantage:
- Minor mishaps are hard to fix.
- Not everyone can hang wallpaper
- The removal of wallpaper can be tedious.
- Price: Inexpensive wallpaper costs USD 5/m2, standard wallpaper USD 30 is the norm, fabric wallpaper can cost up to USD 300/m2
Good to know: Thanks to new technology, wallpapering fans are nowadays turning to fleece wallpaper. Contrary to common wallpaper, it no longer needs to be soaked, it doesn’t need any specially prepared base coat and it can be removed easily.
3. Wall tattoo as wall decoration
Advantage:
- Selection of quotes, animals, landscapes, objects, ornaments
- Easy to affix and remove.
- Suitable for many surfaces (plaster, wallpaper, metal, glass, tiles, wood).
- It’s easy to paste over stains
- Wall tattoos are made of washable vinyl foil
- Price: from USD 5
Disadvantage:
- Only good quality tattoos stick on surfaces which are not completely oil-free and clean.
- Wall tattoos are not reusable.
Good to know: White feathers above your bed, a witty quote near the coat rack or the silhouette of your favorite star above the desk gives your home personality.
Paint, wallpaper or wall tattoos are a very simple but effective way of giving a home character with wall decorations.
