Clean Right Up Under the Rim: Purchasing Checklist for Toilet Brushes

Everyone has them, everyone uses them, and yet we don’t attach much importance to them: toilet brushes are among the more useful, as opposed to decorative, bathroom accessories. However, very elegant models made of materials like stainless steel and ceramic exist, most of which come in a set with a soap dispenser and the like. A real innovation has been toilet brushes with rubber bristles. Stylight can help you understand what’s what, and the types of designs that exist.

A brief overview of materials

  • Plastic: Not just the bulk of the brush, but also the complete set can be made of plastic. Advantage: easy to wash.
  • Stainless steel: Shiny or matte metal looks very classy. Also available in gold and copper colors. Take note: choose a good quality metal, otherwise you risk the formation of rust.
  • Wooden body: angular shapes with a bamboo look or wooden veneer. Most come with a removable plastic insert. Disadvantage: wood is susceptible to mold in humid bathrooms.
  • Ceramic and granite: easy-care and modern holders for toilet brushes. Be careful if you have tile floors (high risk of breakage).

Toilet Brush Holder Design

  • Stick it in: If the model has an open design, you simply stick the brush into the holder. These often come with a small cover for a more pleasing appearance. You can hide them entirely in tall holders.
  • Hang it up: The brush hangs in the holder so the water can drip off.
  • All-in-one: Toilet brush below, toilet paper on top – models with built-in toilet paper holders are a space-saving solution for small bathrooms and restrooms.

Brush basics 101

  • Classic models: Round heads and stiff bristles are sturdy and hard-wearing. Practical: matching spare heads save you from buying an entire new set.
  • With rim cleaners: These small additional brushes which are attached sideways reach even the narrowest corners and cracks.
  • Silicon brushes: Toilet brushes with rubber bristles or bristleless models with blades are considered particularly hygienic. The latter are also stain-resistant.

The right place

  • On the floor: Close at hand next to the toilet.
  • On the wall: These are ideal for odd-shaped or small bathrooms.

We often don’t care too much about toilet brushes, and the main thing we think about is their function, not appearance. It’s too bad. Here’s why: Particularly when the toilet is in the bathroom, stainless steel models provide classy decoration, and brushes with silicon bristles scream user-friendliness.

Keep it clean: toilet brushes made of silicon and holders made of stainless steel or ceramic.
