Stay Snug During All Outdoor Activities: 3 Types Of Softshell Jackets

Softshell jackets are convenient and comfortable for any outdoor sports: they are breathable, mostly water-resistant, light and usually made of synthetic materials that provide lots of mobility. They’re a great compromise between a thin rain jacket and a thick outdoor jacket, and best suited for medium temperatures with low precipitation. Stylight will show you three styles:

1. Classic softshell jackets

These jackets are usually made of two or three laminated membrane layers with a water-resistant surface and often have a hood, or a high collar. Depending on the type of activity, they are shorter and cinched in the waist, or reach down to your thigh. Athletic softshell jackets with reflective strips are perfect for winter sports in milder temperatures, or for a jog on chilly days.  Women’s designs include, for example, a black jacket with pink zippers and an additional ski-pass pocket in the sleeve. Knitted ear warmers and color-coordinated mittens in pink and black perfectly complement this look.

2. Long softshell jackets

We recommend a long softshell jacket, e.g. a parka, for being out and about, or walks in the park. It’s long enough to touch your thigh and equipped with a water-resistant outer material, and usually fleece lining. Contemporary jackets are often equipped with convenient extras, such as an additional pocket with a special cable outlet for your cell phones or MP3 players.

For the ladies: an anthracite jacket with a subtle allover pattern and logo patch on the sleeve, as well as a thick, adjustable hood – it looks great with a pair of jeans and high-heel winter boots.

For the gentlemen: A dark-blue softshell jacket with large pockets, chest logo, and a lined hood.

3. Urban softshell jackets

These jackets are not only convenient and appropriate for all kinds of leisure activities, but they also look quite sophisticated. Characteristics: durable outer material and warming fleece lining combined with stylish designs – e.g. a red softshell jacket for women with decorative toggle locks, a cinched-waist and large, patch side pockets. Men can protect themselves from the elements whilst being well-dressed thanks to a navy-blue bomber jacket made of softshell material, warming inner lining, and a high collar with chin guard.

What’s the difference between softshell and hardshell jackets? Softshell jackets are highly functional jackets that are resistant to wind and water, breathable, and provide great mobility. Hardshell jackets consist of two to three laminated layers and are therefore warmer than softshells and generally waterproof. Compared to softshell jackets, they often make a rustling noise while you walk and are wider, since they are exclusively worn as a top layer.

Softshell jackets are the perfect choice for athletic activities in cool weather conditions.
