Sioux

The Sioux Native Americans mostly wore their moccasins to protect their feet from stones and thorns, and this footwear was usually made out of locally available deerskin – a resource that’s totally renewable and recyclable. This Great Plains semi-nomadic tribe entered American consciousness through their proven bravery and fighting qualities. Toughness and the Sioux nation became virtual synonyms, and made the name Sioux a good choice for stout footwear.

The story of Sioux footwear

The story of Sioux footwear actually begins in post war Germany in 1954, with the idea of reproducing Sioux style moccasins. By 1964, the company’s product range had diversified with over 10 million pairs of their Grasshopper model alone eventually being produced for the world market. By 1972, they were officially Germany’s sports shoe manufacturer and this rise to fame has been followed by even more success.

Sioux footwear in today’s world
