Sebago

Whether you’re nautically minded or just want something casually cool to loaf about in, Sebago shoes offer you style and comfort in spades. Originally designed as boat wear, Sebago deck shoes soon became an integral part of the fashion scene and the craftsmanship that goes into each pair has ensured their longevity as fashionable and practical footwear.

The Penny Loafer

The first Sebago shoes, the hand-sewn ‘Penny Loafers’, were created in 1946 and based on the moccasins worn by Native American Indians. While they were worn and favoured by boat owners, 20 years went by before they exploded onto the fashion scene. Debuted at a fashion show in Paris, the designs were suddenly demanded by women, as well as men – securing their place as desirable fashion items and rivalling big name brands such as Ben Sherman.

Detail and quality

Check out our Stylight Sebago online shop and you’ll be able to see the sheer detail and quality of the materials that are used to create these unique shoes. The original and best deck shoes, they’ve been often imitated, but never bettered. In the early 80s brands such as Skechers created their own versions which, while they looked stylish enough, didn’t offer the comfort or durability that were now synonymous with the Sebago brand. Even welterweights such as Diesel Boots, couldn’t replicate the formula that made Sebago so successful.

Function and fashion

By the 21st Century Sebago shoes trod that hard-to-maintain balance between function and fashion with apparent ease. Docksides came to define the entire boat shoe category and Sebago was recognised as an international brand.

Keep Your Sebago Shoes For Life

Some companies make shoes that last a few seasons before they give out for good. Some companies even make shoes that last years. Sebago, however, makes shoes that last a lifetime. Learn what makes them strong and how to keep them fresh for decades to come.

When you slip on a pair of Sebagos, you’ve got a pair of shoes for life. Here’s how to preserve them.

Leather Sole

Unlike many boat shoes, which are finished in rubber, Sebago ups the ante with a leather sole crafted from supple, high-quality hide. A leather sole is both durable and flexible, molding to the contours of your foot for ultimate support and dependable insulation from water. Leather soles do wear out over time, but because the expertly cut leather upper remains intact, replacing the soles of these shoes is a minor expense that pays off.

Hand-Sewn Uppers

In a marketplace where almost everything we buy is machine-assembled, it’s easy to take the production of the things that we wear for granted. The upper portions of a Sebago shoe are cut and sewn completely by hand, making each pair a unique and enduring example of fine leather craftsmanship. Preserve the leather and stitching of your Sebagos by spot-cleaning them with soap and water and oiling them once every few months to prevent cracking in the hide.

Rich Color

From pure white to dreamy blue to classic cognac, Sebago’s leather shoes come in a variety of hues suited to every personal style. A light cream pair of docksiders is a perfect warm weather choice when paired with seersucker or eyelet, and a cognac pair seamlessly transitions into chillier cruises in cable-knit sweaters. Invest in a few pairs for the changing seasons and preserve them in between by storing them in a cool, dark place.

Don’t fall for lesser imitators. Sebago’s are the boat shoes that you’ll love forever.

Sebago shoes are built to last, so treat them well.
