Exposing five common nutrition myths
We are constantly being bombarded by so-called “experts” on nutrition (we’re looking at you Instagram girls) telling us what foods not to eat and which to load up on. So, we’ve decided to make an easy little cheat-sheet exposing five different nutrition myths.
1. You Should Drink 8 Glasses Of Water A Day
The amount of water a person should drink depends on their body size, the activities they’re doing and the temperature/weather conditions. A good indicator is the colour of your urine, which should be a pale yellow
2. Eating Late Makes You Gain Weight
This isn’t necessarily true. The body needs to process calories no matter what time they’re consumed. The problem with eating at night is that we often do so in front of the TV, leading to distracted, unhealthy choices.
3. A Low Carb Diet Is The Best Way To Lose Weight
It doesn’t matter what diet you do, you can lose weight if you expend more calories than you take in. When you cut out carbs, you dramatically slash calorie consumption, leading to weight loss. But, cutting carbs is not the sole way to do so.
4. Low-Food Is Always The Best Choice
When fat is removed from certain goods, something else is usually added such as sugar, salt or chemical flavouring. The myth is that eating fat creates fat in our body, which is simply not true as fat is a crucial nutrient for our bodies.
5. Only Eat Organic Food
Not all food is healthier because it’s organic.
Certain foods are better if they’re organic. Those include strawberries, spinach, tomatoes and apples. Other foods have thicker skins such as avocados and corn. Those don’t need to be organic because they’re protected and aren’t impacted by pesticide residue.
