Looking to revamp your space? Try an accent wall.

According to Washington, DC-based interior designer Mariella Cruzado, an accent wall, “is the easiest way to divide up spaces in a room.”

The Splendor Styling Design Studio designer told Stylight, “Open living spaces can be instantly transformed into two or more defined spaces with a coat of paint or wallpaper.”

“[An accent wall] is perfect for apartment living,” Cruzado told Stylight. “One wall painted with a rich, dark colour creates visual depth in a room, making it feel larger. Don’t be afraid of using black in small homes!”

However, Cruzado says that an accent wall shouldn’t be a random, unplanned decision, “using the wrong colour on an accent wall will ruin the whole space’s personality.

I’m absolutely against those random red accent walls that try to incorporate a pop of colour in a room. Your home’s colour palette and decor should be cohesive and planned ahead.”

“Making an accent wall the first thing you see when you enter a room will distract from everything else around,” Cruzado says. “A room with more than one focal point will feel more welcoming and put together.”
