The interior design trends you should know about in 2024
Keeping up with trends nowadays is basically a full-time job: from “recessioncore” brunettes to mob wives, beauty and fashion are rife with buzzwords. But what about interior design? In 2024, the worlds of fashion and interiors are more intertwined than ever, with trending colours and aesthetics trickling down from fashion into decor.
From Milan’s Salone del Mobile—the world’s biggest design trade fair—to Vogue’s interior experts, here are the key interior design trends for 2024, which may or may not be inspired by fashion.
The 2024 design style trends
Quiet luxury – The fashion sphere has been all about “Quiet luxury” for the last few years, and now it’s time for the world of interior design. “The trend sparked by the TV show Succession and an overdose of blingy luxury will continue infiltrating home design,” designer Timothy Corrigan tells Vogue. “It’s not surprising that sophisticated brands like Hermès have continued to do well” despite the luxury market experiencing a steady decline. Quiet luxury is expressed in the home the same way it manifests in a wardrobe: emphasising classic, investment pieces, timeless shapes, and classic silhouettes.
The 90s – 90s minimalism is another huge trend in fashion right now, highlighting muted neutrals and clean lines. Interior design labels have been tapping into the nostalgia for the 90s by reissuing designs from the time and leaning into the postmodern vibe.
“Latte decorating” – “Latte dressing” seems to be the latest obsession among celebs. Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lawrence, and Hailey Bieber are all fans of latte-hued looks. Now, according to Vogue, “Latte decorating” is set to be the next big thing in design.

Trending colours for 2024
Tone-on-tone decor – Monochromatic looks are all the rage in fashion, and layering a single hue is a great styling hack for spaces as well. With tone-on-tone decor, textures, silhouettes, and materials are the stars, and focusing on the furniture allows it to truly shine.
Brown – Believe it or not, brown is set to become the new statement shade in both fashion and interior design. Earthy and warm palettes are on the rise for categories like upholstery, painted cabinetry, art, tabletop, jewellery, and decor. Move over, millennial grey!
Red – Red accents dominated the fashion scene in 2023, and, according to the experts, the trend is set to move to interiors in 2024. Pair it with your latte-decorated space and voilà: you’ve got a super chic and modern vibe.
Stripes – Classic striped and geometric patterns are super in-trend right now. Traditional with a modern spin, you can go for a fully striped room or perhaps a striped, tiled shower. Blue and white together give a coastal appeal to the space.
Yellow – Warm colours are definitely having a moment, and yellow is up there with brown as one of the most trendy shades for interior design. Buttery, warm yellows work great when paired with dark woods or in rooms that get lots of natural light.
Silver and gold accents – Blame Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour, but we’ve been on a metallics high since last year. Silver especially is timeless and versatile, and it perfectly bridges tradition and modernity.

The must-have furniture pieces for 2024
China pantries – In 2024 the spotlight is on previously overlooked spaces, like the laundry room and the pantry. Contemporary takes on the “butler pantry” are gaining momentum as they are a great way to display flatware, china, trinkets, and collections. Unique collectables are another huge trend right now, as people are trying to instil personality and character into their spaces.
Unexpected marble accents – From accessories like coasters and trays to furniture like coffee tables, marble is being used in unexpected ways to add personality to the home.
Cozy furniture outdoors, low and squishy sofas indoors – Since 2020 outdoor furniture has been bigger than ever; in 2024 the cosiest interior trends are moving outdoors. Rounded sofas and armchairs, as well as the trendy “kidney bean-shaped” furniture, are the most fashionable ways to decorate backyards and patios. What about indoors? Low, squishy sofas are the name of the game.
