Declutter: How to tidy up effectively
You love your stuff.
Your books, clothes, shoes, knick-knacks and makeup, you love it all. But, when was the last time you asked yourself if a certain piece brings you joy? Well, the lovely Marie Kondo from ‘Tidying Up With Marie Kondo’ has the whole world obsessed with her organization method. Everything starts and ends with joy and being grateful.
It’s also important to tackle your home in categories, not rooms. For example, deal with all your books at once, the clothes in all bedrooms, etc.
Declutter your space!
- Finding joy: The premise of Marie Kondo’s Netflix show is to hold every item and ask your self if it sparks joy. If not, thank it for its service and get rid of it.
- Keep your boxes: Although boxes may not spark joy, they might be very helpful in organizing your items and keeping them separated. Tiny boxes are a great idea, especially when used in miscellaneous drawers and in the kitchen.

3. Store things upright: This is especially important for clothing, towels and other cloth items. Having them stand up by themselves will allow you to see things easily and know exactly what you have.
4. Making a pile: To get rid of some of your most prized possessions, clothes, you have to put them in a pile. Make a pile, go through it, and pick only your favourite pieces. Although this makes a huge mess, it’s totally worth it.
5. Kitchen declutter: Pile up everything on the counters. Take out absolutely everything and sort through that mess. Then, find a home for your appliances, utensils, dishes, pots & pans that you use often and love most. You’ll be amazed by the different tools, gadgets and appliances you have but don’t use. Get matching clear containers and organize your grains, baking goods and other ingredients neatly. Go all out and label them if you wish!
