This is the ‘it’ bag of 2023: the hobo bag
So, are hobo bags in style in 2023? According to the Stylight Fashion Recap 2022, the hobo bag was forecasted to be one of the most hyped bags as we transition into the new year. While the trend might be “new” this year its definitely not a newcomer to the fashion world. We put “new” in quotations because, as with many of the trends we’ve seen over the past few seasons, the retro-inspired style is anything but new.
A must-have accessory of the late nineties and early 2000s, fashion girls who know their history are all too familiar with the shoulder bag.
But what is a hobo bag exactly? The term is somewhat loosely defined, but usually is characterized by one strap designed to worn over the shoulder, a crescent shape , and slouchy form. Since their return we’ve seen different variations – smaller more handbag like versions as well as a more stable structure.
The confirmation of its return was seen thanks to the popularity of the Saint Laurent Hobo bag during Fashion Week. Not to mention it’s also a favorite accessory amongst celebrities.
