The best jeans according to Camille Charrière
London-based French influencer Camille Charrière swears by her Levi’s 501 jeans. “I’m on a never-ending quest for denim,” the 30-something fashion girl told Alexa Chung on the designer’s YouTube Franglais series.
“I’m on a constant mission,” Camille said. “Everybody always asks me and any time I put on Instagram a picture of me in jeans it’s the question I get asked the most: where’d you get your Levi’s from?”
The straight-cut, medium-rise jean is, and always has been, a favourite among fashion’s elite. Marilyn Monroe was one of the first women to wear the 501 jeans on screen and they appeared in Vogue for the first time in 1949; even Andy Warhol was known for regularly wearing the 501s.

“In my mind, the perfect jeans have zero stretch in them,” said host Alexa Chung. “Nobody said jeans were comfortable; it’s a lie.”
“Good jeans are not that comfortable,” agreed Camille. “…But oh my God you look good.”
“Il faut souffrir pour être belle – It’s got to hurt to be beautiful,” she continued, “it’s what your mom tells you when you’re growing up.”
Camille says to pair the jeans with a white t-shirt or a cardigan, something fitted at the top. Nothing too baggy or big, nothing too structured. “Maybe a little turtleneck, something really simple with a nice little pendant over it and hoops. People like to see the shape of your body.”
