Many pieces—bags and shoes in particular—are often sold and bought with the expectation of a return on investment. Hermès’ bag selection, from the coveted Birkin and Kelly to slightly more niche styles like the Constance, Picotin Lock, and Evelyne, is renowned for only appreciating with time. For example, the Mini Kelly has recently become the bag with the highest resale value dethroning the Birkin—which still holds a value increase of 127%-138%.

While we all dream about owning Hermès’ most inaccessible pieces, other luxury fashion houses offer plenty of stunning bags with similarly high resale value. If you’re looking to make an investment, here are five more “it” bags with the highest resale value, according to the experts.

This small but mighty 90s icon is still hot as ever thirty years later. Donned by the likes of  Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, the Pochette is a worthy investment if you’re not fond of other high-ROI LV styles like the Neverfull. “The Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessoires, which debuted in 1992, is the French label’s number two style with a 102% average value retention,” Elizabeth Layne, the chief marketing officer at Rebag, tells Vogue. Limited edition styles by Takashi Murakami, Stephen Spouse, and Yayoi Kusama are even more valuable.

Introduced for Bottega Veneta’s Summer 2023 collection by the (now former) creative director Matthieu Blazy, the Andiamo bag has been uber-popular ever since, becoming a genderless staple for women and men (we’re looking at you, A$AP Rocky and Jacob Elordi). This practical carryall is a new expression of the brand’s signature intrecciato weaving technique; roomy and versatile, it’s not only a great investment, but also the perfect everyday companion. According to The Real Real, this particular bag will sell for, on average, 75% more than the original retail price.

Ranked as the third bag (only behind Hermès’ Mini Kelly and Birkin) with the highest resale value by Judy Taylor, CEO and founder of Madison Avenue Couture, the Chanel Classic Flap is nothing short of a household name. It’s not a coincidence that Chanel is currently making aggressive changes to the pricing and availability of their bags, as they strive to attain greater exclusivity and reach the number one spot. The Classic Flap is one of the many Chanel bags on Madison Avenue Couture’s top 15 list: Taylor highlights the small size as the best investment.

The most classic Fendi bag, you simply can’t go wrong with a Baguette. This style has gone through endless re-editions, so getting your hands on a rare one is a surefire way to guarantee high resale value. According to Layne, the Baguette was the second most valuable Fendi style of 2023, routinely reselling at 113% of the retail price.

Much like Hermès and, in minor part, Chanel, Goyard is another Maison that uses scarcity and exclusivity as their marketing strategy. The French brand produces bags, wallets, and other goods completely by hand: therefore only a few pieces are available at the time, making the demand higher and higher. The Saint Louis tote bag is Goyard’s most sought-after model: lightweight, chic, practical, and reversible, the Saint Louis resells at about 112% of its retail price.
