The most fashionable women in politics

We’ve come a long wait from the stereotypical shoulder pad power suits from the 80s. And don’t get us wrong while we love a strong, tailored suit,  just because you’re in a leadership position doesn’t mean you have to be confined to a rigid, dress code. It’s time to take notes- these women in politics are proving that they can command a room and look good doing it.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (commonly known as AOC) is one of the youngest US Representatives and has been a powerful voice for women’s rights, immigration, and LGBTQ causes. She made a powerful appearance in statement making dress at the 2021 Met Gala and has even been a guest judge on the highly popular show, RuPaul’s Drag Race.  She has sparked conversation with her grass-roots approach to her style, avoiding the typical dress code of politicians and instead opting for a bold red lip and gold hoops as an homage to her roots in Queens and the Bronx.

Michelle Obama  has always been a woman of style and  was recognized for her chic and elegant looks in her time as First Lady. But more recently, people can’t help but notice how her style has evolved and we LOVE it.

Michelle did what she could given somewhat rigid formality of White House protocal and now that she has moved on the next phase in her life we can see her style is reflecting that. We’ve seen her in a ultra cool denim jumpsuits, stylish monochrome sets in vibrant colors as well as a head-to-toe leather ensemble.

Making history as being the first female US Vice President, Kamala is an inspiring figure for women everywhere. While her go-to look is usually a chic tailored two-piece suit, we love her more casual looks – often a cool blazer thrown over t-shirt with a pair of black or white Converse.

Helle Thorning-Schmidt was the former Danish Prime Minister – and was the first woman to hold the position. She is known for her taste in fashion – often wearing designer or luxury brands, receiving both appreciation and criticism even earning her the nickname “Gucci Helle”. But she has also used fashion to make a statement – sporting a rainbow armband in support of LGBTQ rights at the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar. She even auctioned off her infamous Gucci bag, donating the proceeds to charity.
