7 sustainable clothing brands that are actually super chic

Supporting sustainability in fashion is an ongoing conversation we need to continue to have. The fashion industry is well-known for its hazardous carbon footprint and as a result, more brands are stepping up to banish attitudes and actions that are harmful to the environment.

To become proactive consumers, it’s also up to us to put our money where our mouths are and support sustainable clothing brands. For stylish and eco-friendly fashion, this is a good place to start: here are seven sustainable—and chic!—fashion brands to have on your radar.

The ethically made luxury brand is a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, an organization “committed to measuring and improving social and environmental sustainability impacts”. Stella McCartney uses eco-friendly materials, including regenerated cashmere and recycled polyester.

This Sweden-born denim brand has one mission: making each piece into your “forever jeans”, the ones you never get rid of and age with you like a fine wine. They do this by using organic cotton, focusing on recycling, and most importantly, by offering free repairs for life in the form of Nudie Repair Shops, partners, and home-delivered kits.

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production, Scandinavian brand Stine Goya has committed itself to implementing a green strategy and neutralizing their carbon footprint.

With summer on the way, what better time to stock up with sustainable swimwear? Mara Hoffman’s namesake label was founded in 2000 and shifted its focus to sustainability in 2015. By “fostering mindful fashion habits,” supporting the communities most severely impacted by climate change, and prolonging the lifespan of each item of clothing, the brand is dedicated to minimising its environmental impact.

Veja is an innovative sneakers brand that is passionate about innovative and sustainable materials, like Brazilian and Peruvian organic cotton, Amazonian rubber, and mesh made entirely from recycled bottles. They also offer cleaning and repair services and have eliminated ads and marketing to reduce the price of their products.

Who said athleisure can’t be chic? Girlfriend Collective is a sustainable brand offering casual basics, activewear, underwear, and accessories that are not only 100% made of recycled materials, but also super size-inclusive. Win-win!
