The 1970s style staples making a comeback in 2025

We all know it, fashion trends and past eras never really go out of style, and if they do, they’re sure to circle back in a few years’ time.

We’ve seen it with 90s grunge makeup and early-naughties ballet flats, but 2025 is going to be all about another iconic decade for fashion: the 1970s.

So, if Jane Birkin and Farrah Fawcett are your style muses and you can’t help to start dancing when ABBA plays, this is for you: here are the iconic 70s-inspired pieces that will be all the rage in 2025.

Tall, slouchy boots have been our fall and winter footwear of choice for two seasons now; pull-on, mid-heel boots were as much of a staple in the 1970s as well. Suede—another huge Fall 2024 trend—was the go-to, along with shiny patent go-go boots. Over-the-knee designs were massively popular in spring as well, styled with micro shorts and mini skirts. Start taking notes for next season!

Pearls are set to be one of the big jewellery trends for 2025, but did they ever really leave? Ever since the 1970s, this jewellery box staple has come back around every decade: back then, stars like Raquel Welch would wear long strings of pearls with their evening dresses; in 2025, pearls are becoming “modern heirlooms” with a contemporary, minimalist design.

Even though a deconstructed approach to denim dresses was extremely popular this spring, you just can’t go wrong with a classic! A good denim dress is as much of a staple as it was in the 70s: effortless like jeans but still as chic as your favourite frock, a denim dress can be cheeky and playful or more grown-up and demure. Pair your denim dress with knee-high boots and you’re ready to go.

However you may call it, the foulard is the most versatile accessory you need in your 70s-inspired wardrobe. Printed or monochrome, worn around the neck, as a headband, or wrapped around your handbag’s handles: not only is the foulard one of the most sought-after 70s trends of the season, but also it immediately elevates even the most simple looks.

Sienna Miller and Chloé fans, your time has come: Seventies bohemian style is set to be one of the key trends for 2025.

With designers from Valentino—under the new creative direction of Alessandro Michele—Isabel Marant, Rabanne, and (obviously) the quintessential boho brand Chloé opting for billowing, flowy silhouettes, sheer materials like chiffon, and soft, warm hues like butter yellow and pairing them with suede and leather pieces. The 70s icons to look at for inspiration are Stevie Nicks, Cher, and Janis Joplin.

Another 70s boho staple is fringed jackets: from suede and leather to denim and knitwear, there was no decade for fringes like the 1970s.

Fringed jackets briefly had a moment this past autumn, and the trend is set to take footing during the next year. Stella McCartney, Bottega Veneta, Ottolinger, Proenza Schouler, Moschino, Isabel Marant, Gucci, and Missoni are just some of the brands that embraced fringes for their SS25 collections.

If you think fringe jackets are difficult to style, think again: from pencil skirts to jeans, dad sneakers to loafers, a fringed leather jacket looks cool with absolutely anything, and you’ll find yourself wearing yours more than you think.

Created and popularised by Diane Von Fürstenberg in the early 1970s, the jersey wrap dress is nothing short of timeless. Inspired by the wrap top and skirt combinations worn by ballerinas, the wrap dress is as much a 70s icon as it is a modern staple piece. But what exactly makes the DVF wrap dress so good?
