No more chipped nails with this new technique
Manicures are usually promised to last up to 2 weeks. The “up to” part is pretty crucial because it’s a mini miracle if you actually making it through until the end of the 2 weeks. Running to the nail salon to fix your chipped gel polish is a familiar struggle for anyone who loves keeping their nails professionally manicured. That’s why we were so excited when we heard about dip powder nails!
Dip powder nails fall somewhere in between a manicure and fake nails. Instead of using a UV light to seal in the polish, the colour is actually in the pigmented powder. Between base coats and sealant, you dip your nails into a jar of the colour of your choice. This manicure is said to last 3 to 4 weeks, which to be honest, is pretty revolutionary. Watching the process in action is super satisfying:
You can try this at home!
If you don’t feel like taking a trip to the salon, and you think you have what it takes to do this yourself, try it out! If you’re starting from scratch, you’ll need a dip powder set.
How-To Apply Dip Powder Nails
Step 1: Prep nails by pushing back cuticles and shaping & buffing your natural nail.
Step 2: Apply base coat on the entire nail and dip into the powder. Make sure you’re dipping right after you apply the base coat to ensure adhesion. Tap off the excess.
Step 3: When dry, use a brush to wipe off any remaining loose powder.
Step 4: Repeat step 2 & 3.
Step 5: Apply a layer of base coat and dip into the clear colour set powder. Dust any excess when dry.
Step 6: Apply a coat of the activator to each nail and allow to dry.
Step 7: Buff nail and shape as needed.
Step 8: Apply a second coat of the activator and allow to dry.
Step 9: Apply two coats of top coat on each nail and allow 1-2 minutes to dry.
Nail perfection achieved!
