The essential pre-summer beauty routine
It’s the season of the natural glow: summer beauty means smooth, radiant skin and shiny hair that stays magically frizz-free. But let’s be real – that carefree summer look isn’t quite as easy as it seems, and if you’re not prepped, you can end up rocking the dry, cracked skin and matted hair look instead. We’re here to help you get that summer beauty routine nailed whilst you still have time.
1. Take stock
Summer can bring up a wave of beauty issues, different for each of us depending on our skin and hair type. Before you tackle the problem, you need to know what’s really going on. Do you suffer from dry skin when the temperature soars? Or is your hair hardest to tame in humidity? Take stock of your past experiences and check-in with what condition your skin and hair is in right now to help you to work out what you’ll need.
2. Introduce new products cautiously
Before investing in a cabinet load of products, ask for samples to see how they work on your skin. Avoid changing your routine overnight with an array of products as you won’t be able to tell what’s working and what’s not. Take it slowly, introducing one new product each week and being aware of any changes.
3. Start your summer routine early
If you’re guilty of heading to the beach for a few weeks without a thought for your skin and hair, you’ll know that the impact holidays have could leave you attending to the damage for a long time coming.
Prioritise your skin now, introducing your new found product that will address your core issue, such as intense dryness or redness, and moisturising your skin daily to prepare it for sun exposure.
Start preparing the hair with weekly masks to replenish moisture. Get a light trim before going away, waiting until the end of the summer to remove damaged lengths in a proper cut. We also advise against colouring pre-travel because the effects of the sun, chlorine and salt often cause the colour to fade or change in tone.
