Phew! With all of the upcoming office party outfit purchases, festive nights out with friends, and endless gift buying, we’re going to be positively skint by Christmas. But 2016 has been such a big year our skin is screaming out for some TLC. So what to do with no money and hella beauty problems? DIY facials, my friend, DIY facials.

Why spend a bajillion dollars on a spa treatment when you can make your own, all-natural face mask at home? Simply open up your fridge, raid the kitchen pantry; in there you’ll find all the ingredients you need to try out these DIY facials.

While you’re nourishing your tresses with these homemade hair masks, grab your bestie and get cooking these easy face mask recipes that are good enough to eat.

The Kitchen Staple: Bananas

1. Mash one medium-sized banana.
2. Add two tablespoons of honey.
3. Add two tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice if you want to revitalise and brighten your skin OR 1/4 cup of plain natural yoghurt if you wish to gently nourish and cleanse.
4. Apply mixture onto your face and leave to set for 15-20 mins.
5. Wash off with lukewarm water and moisturise.

The Kitchen Staple: Honey
For minimising the appearance of sun spots and uneven pigment / hyperpigmentation

1. Blend 1/2 cup of mashed, ripe papaya with two tablespoons of honey.
2. Apply mixture onto your face and leave for 15-20 mins.
3. Wash off with lukewarm water and moisturise.

The Kitchen Staple: Oatmeal
For a soothing acne treatment

1. Combine 1/2 cup of oatmeal with an egg yolk, one tablespoon of honey, and a tablespoon of olive oil.
2. Apply mixture onto your face and leave to set for 15-20 mins.
3. Wash off with lukewarm water and moisturise. (Tip: Don’t forget to place a strainer in your sink to catch the oatmeal granules.)

The Kitchen Staple: Yoghurt
For freshening up a tired complexion

1. Mix two tablespoons of plain natural yoghurt, freshly squeezed juice from 1/2 of an orange, and one tablespoon of aloe vera .
2. Apply mixture onto your face and leave to set for 15-20 mins.
3. Wash off with lukewarm water and moisturise.

The Kitchen Staple: Orange
For brightening dull skin

1. Blend three tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice with 1/2 cup of honey.
2. Apply mixture onto your face and leave for 30 mins.
3. Wash off with lukewarm water and moisturise.

The Kitchen Staple: Egg
For nourishing and moisturising all skin types

1. Separate one egg into its yolk and egg white constituents. For dry skin only use the yolk, for oily skin only use the egg white, and for normal skin use the whole egg.
2. Beat the yolk, the egg white, or the whole egg (depending on your skin type).
3. Add one teaspoon of lemon and one teaspoon of honey.
4. Apply mixture onto your face and leave for 30 mins.
5. Wash off with lukewarm water.

Even Quicker Beauty Remedies:

– Place used green tea teabags in the fridge and, when cool, rest on eyes for 10-20 mins to brighten dark under-eye circles

– Convert used coffee grounds into a super-quick, super-invigorating scrub

– Use the juice of one lemon and 1/4 cup of olive oil or almond oil to form a revitalising face oil

– Mix 1/4 cup of powdered milk with water to form a thick, gentle cleansing paste that you can coat your face with. Leave it to dry completely and rinse with warm water

– Combine one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and two cups of water as a toning finishing rinse
