5 things no one tells you about getting hair extensions
Tape, weft, bead, the world of hair extensions can be pretty confusing. Whichever type you decide to get, when you finally decide to try them, you’re going to encounter these five things. There’s a bunch of different reviews and posts about hair extension recommendations, but there’s not that many on what it’ll feel like when you finally have them. We’re here to give you just that!
1. You’ll be paranoid about them showing.
When you first get hair extensions every time the wind blows or you wear your hair up or you put your hair to the side, you’ll be paranoid about the bead or tape weft showing. As you get used to having them in, you’ll be far more chilled about it. Sure, you’ll do the odd tjuz on the crown of your head, but it won’t be as excessive as when you first had them attached.
2. You won’t expect how itchy they can get or how uncomfortable it will be to sleep on them.
Especially in the case of bead and tape hair extensions, the first few nights before you wash your hair, they’ll be quite stiff and you’ll notice that you have something in your hair the second you rest your head on your pillow. Every time you get them re-done you can pretty much expect this. As your hair grows, though, the bond will move further down your hair shaft and be far more comfortable.

3. They’re surprisingly easy to do by yourself.
If it’s your first time getting extensions we highly recommend getting them installed by a professional. Don’t be a hero; you won’t know what to do. But, when you’ve had them moved up a couple of times and have paid serious attention to how your hair stylist did it, then you might as well save yourself the money and do them yourself. Obviously, the easiest version to do is tape extensions, as you’ll only need a really good hair tape solvent spray and the tape. Beads, however, require a few more tools, but they’re still do-able by yourself.
4. People will look at you more.
Maybe it’s the extra confidence you exude, maybe it’s simply a damn good head of hair; either way, people will look at you more, guaranteed. You’ll be surprised by the number of double-takes you get.
5. You won’t know just how amazing you’ll feel until you get them.
Your natural beauty is heightened when you’ve got longer and/or fuller hair. But ignoring how others will interpret your appearance, getting hair extensions is about you. When you finally take the plunge (and it’s not really that big of a plunge), you’ll truly feel more beautiful than ever.
