Long Sweaters for Men: The All-Rounder of Long Tops

Who says that longer sweaters are only for women? Long sweaters for men create an uncomplicated, sporty look, hang past the hips and are mostly made from knitted materials, jersey or cashmere. Stylight has some tips to help you achieve that rustic look with a long sweater:

Collared shirts

The layered look with a long sweater and collared shirt can be classic – but it doesn’t have to be so formal, just don’t tuck your shirt in and let it be seen under the hem of your sweater. This style is particularly cool with lumberjack shirts, styles with pattern prints or long sleeve shirts with flamboyantly-shaped collars.

T-shirts

Oversized for underneath: fitted long sleeve T-shirts go perfectly with long sweaters for men. Colorful or patterned sweaters should be combined with neutral T-shirts, whereas plain long sweaters can definitely be paired with colorful long sleeve T-shirts.

Pants

Denim, jersey or linen – when choosing which pants to wear with your long sweater, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to material. When choosing pants, go for tighter styles (for example, slim or skinny fit) without artificial pockets. Stonewash marks or used details are good eye-catchers. Pants with creases only look good with a long sweater if they are skinny cut.

Shoes

Sneakers, boots, loafers, brogues, moccasins, in fact, any type of shoe can be worn with men’s long sweaters, as long as the color goes with the overall look. The only ‘no go’s are office shoes – the contrast with the casual sweater is simply too strong. The generally stylish long sweater look is best rounded off with sporty or off-beat shoes.

Accessories

Never combine long knit scarves or bracelets with rustic long sweaters. More suitable accessories include ties, which provide a colorful highlight under the sweater, or sporty baseball caps.

Men’s long sweaters should not look too formal, nor should they look like pajamas. Simple pattern details on the sweater or styles with hoods and cords will make your outfit a little more casual. Slimmer men can definitely wear long sweaters made of thicker materials.
