A Lesson In Long Johns

We all dread that time of year when temperatures dip to extremes. When freezing turns into frozen, and your normal winter attire just won’t cut it to brave the outdoors.

If You Stink….

After a day of battling the cold, no man wants to peel off their layers to find a smelly pair of long johns. Wool is naturally antibacterial and can be worn on consecutive days with minimal odor buildup.  Even better news for the stinkier sex: Merino wool has virtually replaced traditional wool thanks to its soft, non-itchy fibers. Now you can be comfortable AND stink-free.

If You Sweat….A Lot

Two Words: Moisture Wicking.  Similar to performance apparel, long johns come in synthetic materials like polyester and polyester blends which solve your problem by “wicking” sweat away from skin and pushing it through your clothing’s surface where it evaporates. Although not as efficient as synthetic materials, silk is a softer, more luxurious option that won’t add bulk to your layers.

If You’re Cold….Then Hot, Then Cold Again

You’ll need long johns that adjust to your inconsistent shifts in temperature. Wool typically works the best in both cool and warm environments with silk coming in second. Long underwear with breathable wool fibers can buffer skin from air heated by the sun the same way they can trap warmed air and keep it close to skin in cool conditions.
