A Must in the Kitchen: Kitchen Textiles

They keep things shiny and protect against spots and burnt fingers. Those who like to cook cannot do without kitchen textiles. These handy aids are simply a must for everyday use and can also be pleasing to the eye.

Chef’s apron

Aprons are worn over clothes and fastened so that they cover most of your front. These kitchen textiles protect you from spatters and stains while cooking, so you don’t need to get changed before you eat.

  • Materials: Blended fabrics made of cotton and polyester, or 100 percent cotton. The fabric should be able to be washed at 140°F.
  • Size: Pinafores cover the entire uppper body and part of the legs. They are fastened around the neck and waist with ties. Waist aprons are tied around the waist and only cover the lower body.

Oven cloths and mitts

Oven cloths help you keep a safe hold on hot baking trays, pot handles or baking dishes. Oven mits, which you can slide your hand into, are often easier to use.

  • Materials: Cotton, normally double-layered and quilted, with insulating lining. Modern styles are often made of plastic or silicon.
  • Size: Oven cloths: 8 x 8 inches; mitts: approx. 12 x 6 inches

  • Look:Just like aprons, these kitchen aids are available in countless patterns and colors. They often come in a set with a matching apron.

Dishtowels

Apart from drying dishes and hands, dishtowels can also be used for polishing flatware and glasses, and of course for wiping up spilled liquids. Kitchen textiles with nice patterns or cool slogans can additionally serve as eye-catchers in the kitchen.

  • Materials: Cotton, linen and half-linen can often by washed at 195°F. Terrycloth and microfibers are particularly absorbent.
  • Size: approx. 20 x 28 inches

  • Look: Checks, flowers and graphic patterns are especially popular. You can often buy them with coordinated designs in packs of 2, 3 or 4.

You can quickly and easily give your kitchen a new look with kitchen textiles. But they don’t just look good: doing the dishes is always much easier with a nice dishtowel, your fingers will thank you for the protection offered by an oven cloth, and an apron will protect your clothes while cooking.
