Take A Plunge With Karla Colletto
For over 25 years, Karla Colletto has redefined swimwear with every collection she’s created. By utilizing the latest innovations and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, she’s managed to consistently stretch the boundaries of swimwear season after season.
What sets Colletto apart is her future forward thinking along with her signature sense of whimsy, which in turn breeds beautiful swim designs that are both modern and functional. So where did this swimwear star get her start?
Her Designer Roots:
Colletto grew up in the town of Wrentham, Massachusetts, on the Rhode Island border. She was inspired from a young age by her grandmother who was a seamstress and her grandfather who was a tailor. She eventually went on to study fashion design, and later learned her craft from couture designer Alfred Fiandaca.
The First Splash:
In 1981, Karla and Lisa Rovan, her sister and business partner, created a custom design company with pieces ranging from sportswear to bridal gowns. She learned to design swimwear through “trial and error,” using the skills of pattern making, grading and sewing to piece a garment together. Rovan had apprenticed with a swimwear contractor in the past, and, together, they honed in on the world of aquatic couture. Six years later, they sold a small collection to Saks Fifth Avenue and the brand grew from there.
Quality That Continues:
Even after 25 years, Karla Colletto continues to manufacture all of their swimsuits in America ensuring that each synthetic masterpiece is impeccably crafted down to the last detail. From the start, Colletto sought to give her designs an innovative edge. Undoubtedly, one of the distinctions of a Karla Colletto swimsuit is the fabric. Colletto has experience with modern techniques like 3D printing, bonded microfiber, laser-cut details and NoSo technologies. By manufacturing each piece in-house and using only the most luxurious materials, the brand ensures a dressmaker-like quality.
Karla Colletto continues to defy the swimwear status quo and make women around the world feel fashionably fabulous donning little more than a swimsuit.
