From Rags To Runways: A History Of Hudson

Best known for its jeans, particularly those worn by Georgia May Jagger in its ad campaigns, Hudson has become a label associated with exclusivity, a celebrity client list and that rock-and-roll factor. But it hasn’t always been that way.

Read on as we detail the history of a company that has gone from a family’s desperate attempt at avoiding bankruptcy to one of America’s best-loved denim brands.

Before The Brand

Peter Kim, the brand’s founder, was born to a South Korean family in southern California who owned a clothing company. As Kim grew up, the company grew more and more in debt. Although he was in his final year of college at the time, he made the decision to work tirelessly to save the struggling family business (over 120 hours a week, according to Kim) and managed to breathe new life into it.

Branching Out

Kim then decided to try his hand at launching his own company and in 2000, Jane’s Army was born. The brand failed due to fabric issues, but that only fueled Kim’s desire to succeed and taught him the importance of premium, quality materials. Once he had learned this valuable lesson, Kim went on to apply it to Hudson when it launched two years later.
