Vests for women: Which shirts go best?
Wild, wild, “vest”? These new vests for women are bright, bold, and no longer content to be relegated solely to the denim cowgirl look! But remember: No matter which vest you choose, it shouldn’t have to compete for attention with any other part of your ensemble. But how? We’ll tell you!
1. Down vests
After a short fashion sabbatical and a late-90’s revival of the puffy look, down vests are once again back and lighter than ever! You can find them in every color and in fun retro designs.
Wear them with short or long-sleeved t-shirts, sweatshirts, city shirts or lumberjack shirts.
2. Fur vests
These fluffy vests are made of long, shaggy (fake) fur or done in a cozy sheepskin look.
Wear them with tunics or more elegant tank tops in warm colors. Similar colors and natural tones can create a lovely, natural look. Vests with feather patterns are best worn with simple t-shirts in the same color. In any case, it’s best to avoid belts or lacing.
3. Denim vests
Denim vests are in a class of their own and not to be confused with the jean jacket. Although made of the same material, these vests are more elegant and form-fitting. Brands such as Diesel or G-Star are especially known for their mix of elegance and rock n’ roll attitude. These vests should be elaborate and tapered at the waist.
Wear them with long-sleeve shirts and silk blouses or shiny fabrics that contrast well with denim. While white is too harsh, black, gray, and pastel colors are all fabulous choices for this look.
4. Biker vests
These vests are the spitting image of the biker jacket: Diagonal zippers, high, closed collars, and the look of patent or mat leather.
Wear them with soft Jersey shirts in dark colors or the color of the vest with 3/4-length sleeves or white blouses with simple cuffs and bold collars (high and stiff like Karl Lagerfeld) or decorated bibs (think tuxedo).
Vests for women are ideal for creating a layered look in which the vest should always be the top layer. This includes jackets, except in the case of classic suit vests.
