Fleece has been jazzing up closets since the 70s. Back then, the material was made from polyester, whereas today, fleece fabric can even be made using recyclable plastic bottles. That means that fleece jackets are not only light and super soft, but also very environmentally sound!

The advantages of fleece

• Fleece keeps you warm without adding bulk, which is why fleece jackets are perfectly suited for outdoor activities, as a layer under a down jacket, or as outerwear for cold, sunny days.
• This material is neither wind nor waterproof, but dries very quickly.
• It is durable and lasts for a long time, yet never looks faded or fuzzy.
• It doesn’t make you itch like wool and is therefore particularly well-suited to sensitive skin.
• Fleece is low-maintenance and does not have to be ironed.

Tips for wearing fleece jackets

• Wear a fleece jacket under a hard-shell jacket on rainy, windy days, for example, as a hoodie with a full-length front zipper and drawstring hood, in a bright color, such as purple or green.
• Never wear fleece on top of fleece, as the material does not glide and two layers will restrict your mobility. As well as this, the fabric is relatively thick and can therefore make you look bulky. In the winter, it’s best to combine it with a polyester down jacket.

The right thickness

The heavier the jacket, the warmer it is.

• Fleece with a weight rating of 100 weighs 100 grams per square meter. Wear it as an under jacket, or a light jacket with a wide collar and drawstring in pink looks cozy and casual when paired with dark-blue jeans and a white T-shirt on warmer days.
• Fleece with a weight rating of 200 is slightly thicker and can be used as an outer layer between the seasons, as well as a layer under a ski jacket. For example, you can wear it in dark red with allover teddy fur paired with black wool leggings and classic moon boots.
• Fleece with a weight rating of 300 can be worn as a top layer, or a layer in arctic temperatures. Styles include a white fur design with gray edging on the hood and seam, as well as stretch inserts. Underneath: a formfitting, gray longsleeve shirt that does not add bulk.

Not all fleece fabrics are created equal. Today, there are numerous types that can be used to make fleece jackets.
