The Heads Up on Felt Hat Styles

Put down that ball cap. It’s time to venture into the untapped world of felt. Not just for bad hair days or botched cuts, felt hats are a trend that keeps giving.

Wide brimmed, or asymmetrical, these hats can be worn year-round for their effortless style and functionality. Use them to bring texture to a basic look or protect you from bright rays.   No longer just the harborer of chronic bedhead, we’re turning our eyes to the three hats that have never looked better in felt.

The Fedora

Reigning as headgear supreme, the fedora is the obvious fan favorite of felt. Its flat shape and protective brim has maintained its popularity through the decades while worn casually with denim-on-denim or fur. For a rich look, resist the urge to go for black and find a fedora in vibrant navy, olive or maroon.
Brim: Smooth & Wide
Crown: Dull Indent

The Trilby

Lesser known in the headwear mainstream, the trilby is a compact version of the fedora with added edge. Its easily identifiable by its sharp crown and curled brim. Pair the trilby with a bold pencil skirt, and neutral colored blouse.
Brim: Upturned & Narrow
Crown: Sharp Indent

The Cloche

This close-fitting, bell shaped hat is a flapper’s dream. Since its creation, the 20s style topper has typically been crafted from soft felt for a close-fit to be worn low on the forehead. For a sleek look, wear the cloche with an oversized wool coat and cigarette pants.
Brim: Angled & Asymmetrical
Crown: Round

Casual or chic, top off any look with a statement-making hat. The addition of a well-crafted felt fedora, trilby or cloche is just the thing your closet is missing.
