Cropped & Cozy: How To Rock The Abbreviated Sweater Every Season

A cropped sweater may seem like an oxymoron or at the very least just another product of fashion’s futility and frivolity. But in fact, we’re here to make the case for the cropped sweater as an all-season staple.

Spring

Transition into spring with a sweater that won’t leave you sweating as the weather warms up. Early in the season try pairing it with your culottes and as summer approaches pull it on over your dresses for an easy layer you can strip off in the afternoon.

Summer

While we may want to think a sweater has no place in our summer wardrobe, we always end up digging one out in order to fight off the chill of the air conditioning that’s on blast everywhere we go. But by choosing a cropped sweater as you summer standby, it will look and feel more seasonally appropriate.

Fall

The hotter days may be over, but that doesn’t mean you need to totally hide your bikini body and killer tan. Bare your mid-drift while you still can when you pair your cropped sweater with high-waisted pants and a bomber jacket. Slip on your sunnies and a beanie to complete the hot/cold combo.

Winter

In winter, layers are key to staying warm, but they are also the culprit of a bulky and a less than flattering silhouette. Elongate your frame and accentuate your waist while still staying warm when you layer a cropped sweater over an extra long button up shirt. Add a pair of wool skinny pants and a duster coat to further emphasise the slimming effect of the vertical lines in your outfit.

A cropped sweater is not ironic, it’s essential. And now that you know how to rock one ever season it will soon rise to MVP-status in your wardrobe rotation.

These sweaters may be short in stature, but they are not short in style.
