Presented in the proper light: Ceiling lights for your apartment
Ceiling lights greatly influence the ambiance due to their direct and indirect light. They are positioned directly under the ceiling unlike pendant lights which hang in the room. Fixed far up on the ceiling, they provide optimal illumination of rooms and corridors. Besides lamps with shades made of glass, paper or fabric, ceiling spotlights illuminate every corner. Which type is best suited for which particular room:
Living room
- Design and shape: Ceiling spotlights are suitable for rooms where there is a lot going on. The spots which are fixed to a twisted frame made of chrome-plated metal can be moved in every direction. You can focus the cone of light for example on special art prints or lounge corners.
- Position: Above the coffee table or in the center of the room. Emphasis is placed by floor lamps.
- Light: Warm white but bright (LEDs).
Kitchen
- Design and shape: Spotlights which are attached to a fixed metal structure light up long dining tables optimally. For atmospheric light, ceiling lights with big, round lampshades made of fabric are ideal.
- Position: Above the dining table
- Light: Choose a bright light for shared dinners. Dimmable switches are ideal when it becomes more convivial late at night.
Bedroom
- Design and shape: Romantic models which are reminiscent of chandeliers are good for a magical ambiance in the bedroom. Ceiling lights adorned with small plastic flowers give it a more playful look.
- Position: In the center of the room or above the bed as an attention getter
- Light: Cozy warm white. Additional emphasis is placed by table lamps.
Bathroom
- Design and shape: Bright ceiling spotlights or recessed spotlights in subtle shapes without many frills
- Position: In the center of the room, above the bathtub as a starry sky and around the bathroom mirror
- Light: A bright, pure white light is suitable when applying makeup while diffused light is suitable for relaxed baths.
Children’s room
- Design and shape: Colorfully printed ceiling lights with animal prints or fancy shapes such as stars.
- Position: In the middle of the room to provide optimal light. Accent lights can be added.
- Light: A bright lamp is ideal for playing, drawing and writing.
Since ceiling lights are fixed high up in the room, their light cone is larger than that of normal pendant lights. That way, they create a lovely ambiance. Additionally, ceiling spotlights or models with flat, round lampshades hardly take up any space.
