When you buy a pair of shoes, you want to know about the brand you’re investing in. You can rest assured, Camper is one you’re going to want to represent. Its name is derived from the Catalan word for ‘peasant’ or ‘farmer’, and it certainly is a company of humble beginnings. But, more importantly, since its inception Camper has been a company of family values.

First Generation
It all began in Inca, Mallorca with Antonio Fluxà, an experienced cobbler who in 1877 traveled to England to discover improved industrial manufacturing techniques. When he returned, he summoned the most skilled leather craftsmen in town, introducing them to the first shoe manufacturing machines.
Second Generation
Antonio’s son Lorenzo was born into the family business—literally. His mother gave birth to him in a shoe factory, and he grew up living and breathing the business, continuing his father’s legacy of well-made shoes and the pioneering technology used to make them.
Third Generation
When Spanish dictator Francisco Franco died in 1975, a new age was brought about—and this included a revolution in shoe fashion. Antonio’s grandson, also named Lorenzo after his father, took over the family business and officially branded it Camper, instilling in it the values of comfort, style and freedom to reflect this new era.
Fourth Generation
In 2001, Lorenzo’s son Miguel joined the business, eventually being named CEO in 2011. Camper is today an international company. It may be a long way from its humble roots in Inca, Mallorca, but it is not far at all from its familial beginnings—the apple never falls far from the tree.
With a legacy spanning four generations and over 120 years, Camper has developed a strong brand voice and a loyal following. Now that we’ve convinced you of the company’s legitimacy, be a happy camper and rest assured that the shoes you are wearing are a part of history in the making.
