This unique woven leather was originally produced by passing strips of leather through a base panel cut with slits, but under Tomas Maier the technique has now been refined: double-sided leather strips are braided by hand, for a stronger weave and finish on both sides. Intrecciato is hand braided at a rate of an inch per minute, allowing it to take up to two days to make a single item.
The Craftsmanship:
All Bottega Veneta leather is sourced from France or Spain, naturally dyed and then treated and finished in Italy, a process that can take several days. 230 craftsmen work at the Vicenza workshop, where most production is carried out by hand. The company even offers a service where its wallets and bags can be sent back to Italy for cleaning and reconditioning.
The Details:
The durable, heavy-duty zippers are engraved with the Bottega Veneta name, not to mention tested several times before they leave the workshop.
